Exciting careers await those who have technical acumen, drive and communication skills.  An excellent example is Dr. Saifur Rahman, the Joseph R. Loring Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech.  Prof. Rahman earned his Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stony Brook University in 1975. Professor Saifur Rahman participated at the seminar “Battery Energy Storage as Backup Power for the Garment Industries” where participants discussed the use of diesel generators as well as batteries as a backup power to provide uninterrupted and quality power to the ready-made garment industry. The Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) plans to research the feasibility of the such a system.

Our organization is strong when we all participate. Many of you are likely aware of the wide range of opportunities to serve within our society at various levels, starting from local chapters to conference planning and management to technical committees. These volunteers – of which I am one – are the core of IEEE/PES and play a key role in shaping our industry. As our industry evolves and strives to serve the global population, I would like to see, as the President of IEEE/PES, more gender and ethnic diversity in our technical committees, conferences and on the PES Governing Board.  Read more…

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization, and The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 27, 2017 in Beijing, China. Mr. Jinbai Yang, Vice President of SGCC, and Professor Saifur Rahman, President 2018-19 of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, signed this MOU and held talks on mutual cooperation.
