IEEE Entrepreneurship asked the 2022 IEEE Presidents-elect candidates three questions to assist our entrepreneurial ecosystem in understanding their choices.

(1) Why do you think entrepreneurs are important to IEEE? (2) What experiences have you had in your career with entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, innovation, etc.? and (3) How would you, as IEEE President, support entrepreneurs?

The IEEE Computer Society asked the IEEE president-elect candidates for their responses to four important questions that affect our Society and membership. The questions and candidates’ responses (limited to 250 words each) are provided here. Exciting careers await those who have technical acumen, drive and communication skills.  An excellent example is Dr. Saifur Rahman, the Joseph R. Loring Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech.  Prof. Rahman earned his Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stony Brook University in 1975. Prof. Saifur Rahman interviewed with WVTF following the big blackout in Texas due to weather.


Professor Saifur Rahman participated at the seminar “Battery Energy Storage as Backup Power for the Garment Industries” where participants discussed the use of diesel generators as well as batteries as a backup power to provide uninterrupted and quality power to the ready-made garment industry. The Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) plans to research the feasibility of the such a system.

Our organization is strong when we all participate. Many of you are likely aware of the wide range of opportunities to serve within our society at various levels, starting from local chapters to conference planning and management to technical committees. These volunteers – of which I am one – are the core of IEEE/PES and play a key role in shaping our industry. As our industry evolves and strives to serve the global population, I would like to see, as the President of IEEE/PES, more gender and ethnic diversity in our technical committees, conferences and on the PES Governing Board.  Read more…


Professor Saifur Rahman was keynote speaker and guest at the 5th International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering held at the Independent University Bangladesh on September 26, 2019.


Prof. Saifur Rahman was interviewed by William Driscoll, reporter of PV Magazine, USA, about the transition to renewable energy.


Professor Saifur Rahman gave an interview at The Asian Age Daily. He also met with M. Shoed Chowdhury, Chairman of  The Asian Age and Honorary Consul of Malta.


Professor Saifur Rahman was interviewed on Prothom Alo, a major daily newspaper in Bangladesh.


The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization, and The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 27, 2017 in Beijing, China. Mr. Jinbai Yang, Vice President of SGCC, and Professor Saifur Rahman, President 2018-19 of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, signed this MOU and held talks on mutual cooperation.
